The galaxy's mightiest heroes will be joining Earth's mightiest heroes in Avengers: Infinity War, as Captain America: Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo confirm that Star-Lord and Thor will appear in the film!
That's right - the crossover we've all been waiting for will occur before our very eyes in May 2018, as the Guardians of the Galaxy have been confirmed to appear in Avengers: Infinity War! Well, one of them anyway, but presumably if one appears then it's a high possibility that the rest will at least cameo. At a press event for Captain America: Civil War, Comicbook.com asked the Russo brothers which characters they're excited to work with on Infinity War, with Thor and Star-Lord emerging victorious. Chris Hemsworth has of course appeared in previous Avengers films as Thor, but the first two were directed by Joss Whedon rather than Joe and Anthony Russo, so it'll certainly be a new experience for them working on so many familiar, yet new characters.
In response to the question, Anthony Russo revealed: "The movies are intended to be a culmination of everything that's happened before in the MCU so you don't want to get into spoilers but I'm a big fan of what James Gunn has done. [Joe Russo and I] are both big fans of what James Gunn has done. Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you'd be very excited." Star-Lord in Infinity War confirmed! Joe Russo added: "I'm excited to work with Thor. They're doing some really interesting stuff with Ragnarok and where he's gonna be at the beginning of Infinity War is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he's gonna have a real emotional motivation after that."
While we're excited to learn that Thor is also in the film, it does confirm that Thor survives the events of Thor: Ragnarok which is meant to be the death of all of the gods, which is a little bit of a spoiler. So who else can we expect to see in Infinity War? With Spider-Man swinging into action in the trailers for Captain America: Civil War we'd be very surprised if he didn't feature, and if Thor survives the events of Thor: Ragnarok, does that mean Loki could too? While Tom Hiddleston has said that Loki would be Team Loki if he were to feature in Captain America: Civil War, something tells us that Loki actually quite enjoys life and doesn't want to see the end of the universe, so we could easily see him teaming up with the Avengers to take down Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Who would you like to see in Avengers: Infinity War?
