Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life has welcomed almost all of its original cast back to Stars Hollow to film a four-part revival season. Find out how Melissa McCarthy, has plans to keep the magic alive for a very long time.
When the news reached us that Melissa McCarthy confirmed she will be back for the Gilmore Girls revival season, we were absolutely ecstatic. McCarthy plays Sookie St. James on the show and appeared in nearly every episode through Seasons 1 to 7. Sookie is Lorelai Gilmore's best friend and business partner, and together they co-own the Dragonfly Inn, which they essentially built from scratch. During her promotional tour for her upcoming movie Ghostbusters, McCarthy was asked by E! Online about how many episodes the revival season will have, to which she cheekily replied: "700. There's only four movies but I've written an additional 696." McCarthy continued to joke: "It's just kind of, me and a voice over." Each episode will be 90 minutes long, and will represent a season of the year in Stars Hollow. As much as we'd love to believe that we have that many installments to looks forward to, we sadly doubt that creator Amy Smerman-Palladino will agree to such a commitment.
We're expecting to see many changes around the town of Stars Hollow in the upcoming season. However, McCarthy happily reminisced about the feeling of familiarity when she returned to set. She revealed: "It was fantastic, to be back in that world and see everybody, it was pretty dreamy, it just felt like we hadn't been gone that long at all, it was really nice." We certainly got that feeling when we saw Sookie wearing one of her signature bandanas in a Gilmore Girls behind-the-scenes photo. McCarthy's participation in the revival almost didn't happen, due to miscommunication from both sides, which worried fans as it's almost impossible to picture Stars Hollow without her.
