The Countess is officially holding court at Hotel Cortez! Lady Gaga is at the reins when American Horror Story Season 5 debuts on FX this fall: read on to find out more
We've already got a look at Lady Gaga in her rose fuschia gown on the set of American Horror Story, we've even seen her with her Captain Hook hand claw, but we've never seen The Countess Owner of 'Hotel' Cortez quite like this. Entertainment Weekly's special feature on American Horror Story Season 5 has given us a new look at the singer's character ahead of the FX show's October 7 release, and if you think she was faking us out when she threw the Hotel themed cast party and filled her pool with blood-stained water, you won't be so smug after you read this. Season 5 will be playing with timelines, going back to the 1930's when "the rich and charming but deeply psychotic" James March, played by Evan Peters, built Hotel Cortez as a front for his murderous deeds. But the new season also takes place in the present day, with the Countess - who's hiding a sinister passion of her own - bringing the Cortez into the present day.
EW described the character as "a glamorous socialite who attends art openings and fashion shows," Gaga's character may not be a vampire in the typical horror story sense so much as a refined art impresario with a taste for fine bloods. “I prefer the term ‘ancient blood virus,’” Show creator Ryan Murphy reports to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s really a form of hemophilia, in a way.” Ever the health and lifestyle nut, Countess Elizabeth balances her red diet with a rounded and "insatiable" penchant for love and sex, "which sets up a macabre love triangle between her, the similarly blood-hungry Donovan (Matt Bomer) and the newly turned male model Tristan (Finn Wittrock)."
