Malcolm Merlyn fans rejoice, as John Barrowman will be gracing your screens as the nefarious villain not just on Arrow, but on The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl!

In the biggest announcement from The CW yet, TVLine has reported that John Barrowman will be a series regular not only on Arrow, but across all of The CW superhero shows. This means that Malcolm Merlyn will also be popping up on The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, but it's unclear how often he'll make appearances in Arrow's sister shows. While a crossover between Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow is on the table and he could appear there, our understanding is that he'll also be appearing in standalone episodes of each show. So does this mean that Merlyn will be the Big Bad of The CW superhero universe, or just a recurring villain? Given that his main show will likely still be Arrow, we'd take a guess at the latter, but he is touted to be a series regular which normally involves appearances in nearly every episode, so color us intrigued.

John Barrowman's deal is reminiscent to the one that Wentworth Miller struck with The CW, which meant that Leonard Snart would be appearing across all four CW superhero shows next year. Back in May, Greg Berlanti told Deadline: "What it really emulates to us is the comic books themselves, where there really are a cast of characters. In success, we hope to continue with other characters finding their way across all the shows." It's now clear that one of the other characters alluded to was Malcolm Merlyn, but who else could be a recurring character across all four shows? Perhaps with Flashpoint affecting Arrow Season 5, Laurel Lance could return and become a CWverse regular? For updates on Arrow, click the green subscribe button below.
