Attention all Fantastic Beasts fans! Warner Bros. has just released a new promo photo of Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander and you should definitely check it out
Enough time has passed since the release of the epic Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trailer for us to recommence our search for more information - at least in our minds, anyway. Fortunately, with filming ongoing for the Warner Bros. Harry Potter spinoff (written by J.K. Rowling herself), plenty of new bits and pieces are heading our way all the time (they even brought out a new promo poster recently). The latest glimpse of Eddie Redmayne as the calamitous British magizoologist, Newt Scamander, comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. As you can see below, the promo photo sees Scamander alongside his companion, Katherine Waterston's Porpentina Goldstein (great name, by the way). There's another man there who appears to be helping our heroes sneak out of a building (perhaps Scamander's New York hotel?), but we don't yet know who he is. Scamander is of course carrying his infamous briefcase - the one from which his Fantastic Beasts escaped - but the fact that he is accompanied by Goldstein suggests that the animals are already long gone!
Anyway, along with this exciting new image, EW heard from producer, David Heyman, and director, David Yates, about their choice to cast Redmayne as their leading man. To be honest, even from our perspective it seems like a bit of a no-brainer - come on, he had just won an Oscar as Best Actor for his performance as Stephen Hawking in A Theory of Everything! Judging by Heyman's response, that miraculous performance certainly helped them make their decision: “He’s good at playing outsiders; Newt is a bit of an eccentric, and we felt Eddie could do that with truth,” he explained. They aren't wrong, Redmayne certainly has a unique talent at portraying some of the 'quirkier' characters on the big screen - today marks the release of his new film, The Danish Girl, across the globe! But enough of that, our hearts are firmly focused on Fantastic Beasts. We've discovered the film synopsis, we've found out the majority of the cast, we've watched the first promotional trailer... What's next, Warner Bros?!
