Fifty Shades Darker is nearing the end of filming, and one of the characters we're most excited to see on-screen is Bella Heathcote's Leila Williams, the troubled ex-girlfriend of Christian Grey. But how did Bella feel about getting into character?
We will be seeing Bella Heathcote in a whole new light upon the release of Fifty Shades Darker, with pictures showing the actress getting her creeper on as Christian Grey's obsessed ex-girlfriend, Leila Williams. In an interview with Front Row Features, Heathcote expressed her sympathies towards her character by explaining: "She’s not a psychopath. She’s not going around mowing people down. She’s confused and deeply troubled. After every breakup, you have those feelings." We here at melty agree that a break up does cue a trip to emotionville, but perhaps threatening you ex's current flame with a gun is not the best way to break through the pain.Fifty Shades Darker is set to be more of a love story than Fifty Shades of Grey, so perhaps Leila's actions will bring Christian and Ana closer together.
Preparing for a role such as Leila Williams takes a certain amount of preparation. Speaking about how she prepared to play this troubled character Heathcote went on the side of empathy. The actress explained: "I definitely went for it. I think James [Foley] encouraged that. At the same time, it’s further down the spectrum but she’s also just a girl who’s grief-stricken and heartbroken. I feel like grief can make people do pretty crazy things. And if you’re already not in a good place to begin with, it sends you off the deep end. I think we can all relate to that feeling of grief and heartbreak, so I just tapped into that and went for it." Seeing Heathcote in action is definitely going to add some thrills to the film, and we can't wait to see it.
