Will Gendry return to Westeros next season and sit on the Iron Throne? Executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have teased what's in store for the Baratheon boy in Game of Thrones Season 7.
There's been some big Game of Thrones revelations recently. Jon Snow's true heritage has been confirmed by HBO, and it's been revealed that the next two seasons of the hit HBO fantasy drama will be shorter seasons because every year it takes longer to shoot them. But there's a bigger question that all fans are waiting to hear the answer to: where is Gendry? And is he still rowing? For those of you who have forgotten, Gendry is the illegitimate son of Robert Baratheon who was imprisoned at Dragonstone by Stannis, and who Davos set free because he didn't think the boy deserved to die. Ever since he left us, Gendry's just been sailing around the world doing his own thing, and we haven't heard a peep from him since.
Speaking on the UFC Unfiltered Podcast though, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have hinted at Gendry's fate and alluded to what he's up to in true tongue-in-cheek fashion. Weiss said: "He's still rowing...he's coming up on Florida." Benioff added: "He’s getting in great shape. Think of the shape he’s in after rowing for four seasons."
Perhaps Gendry will be the champion that will take on the Mountain and fell him once and for all?! In all seriousness though, it seems that while they haven't forgotten about Gendry, he doesn't appear to be a huge part of their endgame plans. After all, Gendry's escape was more for Davos' character development than for the former to come back later, in our opinion. With the White Walkers approaching, maybe Gendry will be the only person with a happy ending?
