The battle between Cersei and the High Sparrow will reach its conclusion in the Game of Thrones Season 6 finale, one way or another. Watch the trailer for Episode 10 "The Winds of Winter" below! Warning: this article contains spoilers for the series thus far.
We're still reeling from the fantastic Battle of Bastards (check out our recap of Game of Thrones Season 6: Episode 9 here), but Game of Thrones isn't a show that gives you time to recover when the going gets tough, and the stakes are equally as high in the finale. It's not just any trial in Episode 10 but Cersei's trial, and if things don't go her way, then there'll be no-one standing in the High Sparrow's way and the realm will be ruled by the Faith Militant. Check out the trailer for the finale below! We have a leaked episode description for "The Winds of Winter," courtesy of Watchers on the Wall, which reads as follows: "A queen comes forth. Euron reveals himself. Brienne meets a friend turned foe. King’s Landing awaits justice. The Night’s Watch gathers." With talk of a friend turned foe, will Lady Stoneheart appear in the Game of Thrones Season 6 finale?
Judging by the teaser, the majority of the episode hinges on Cersei and Loras' trial. With Tommen's edict outlawing trial by combat Cersei's future is looking more bleak than ever, so how will she get herself out of this one? Margaery has let Olenna know that she's still a Tyrell at heart, but will she dare help Cersei? Elsewhere, while Jon is grateful to have Winterfell back, it seems as if Sansa's decision not to tell him about the Knights of the Vale has caused a little rift between them. Will they stay strong and unite the house, or will Littlefinger worm his way into Sansa's heart? It will be interesting to see how Jon reacts to Davos' accusation that Melisandre killed Shireen, and whether he'll pardon her after everything she's done for him. He's clearly not comfortable with it either way. Most exciting though, is the Frey celebration where Walder boasts about sending his regards. Could Jaime have a change of heart after hearing that Jon has retaken Winterfell, and give the Starks poetic justice for Red Wedding? What would you like to happen in the finale?
