Another major player in Game of Thrones Season 6 departs from the series following the season finale, but how do they feel about their exit? Check out the interview with the actor in question below.
And so as another season finale rolls round, another fan-favourite dies. This time, the casualty of Episode 10 was the beloved Margaery Tyrell, because despite her best attempts to get everyone out of Baelor's Sept, the Sparrows wouldn't listen to her (read our full recap of Game of Thrones Season 6: Episode 10 here). Natalie Dormer discussed the moment in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, and her responses are particularly revealing. On how Margaery went out she said: "I thought it was really clever. I really did. It’s not an echo of anything you’ve seen in the last six years. It’s truly it’s own unique moment to tie up what’s been a unique storyline about what’s happened in King’s Landing over the course of Season 6. I thought it was an inspired choice. And it’s really interesting that I am given a moment of some vindication at the very end, which was the perfect way for Margaery to leave the show. She’s given a platform to say that she was right, as she always is. But because the power was taken from her, she couldn’t do anything about it."
Dormer even goes as far as to say that if Margaery was not limited by the High Sparrow and his Faith Militant, then she would have defeated Cersei. The actress said that "the reason it all goes tits up is because Margaery wasn’t in control of the battle against Cersei. She had to hand the reins over to the High Sparrow and Cersei outplays him. By the end, Margaery is a victim of the High Sparrow’s incompetence. He underestimates Cersei and that’s something Margaery Tyrell would never do. David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] try to stay as close to human nature as possible." Margaery did appear to have a master plan that would have saved the Tyrell house and defeated the Sparrows, yet in true Game of Thrones fashion, she was sidelined before she got the chance.
