New 2017 TV series that we have our eye on

Written by

Many of our favorite shows are currently on their winter hiatus, but there are also some new series debuting this year that we're really looking forward to seeing. Read on to find out the new 2017 TV shows that we're excited about!

A Series of Unfortunate Events

The entire first season of Netflix's new show, A Series of Unfortunate Events, will be available next Friday, January 13. The show is based on Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events novels, and we here at melty are super excited about this because we read all of the books as children. The story definitely needs some redemption after that horrible 2004 movie that tried to cram the storyline of all 13 books into one film. We also can’t wait to see Neil Patrick Harris take on the role of Count Olaf.

The Defenders

Another upcoming Netflix series is The Defenders, and it's the team-up between Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist that we’ve been waiting for! But before The Defenders, fans will first get to know Iron Fist in his own individual series. Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones stars as Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, in the new Netflix show that is scheduled for release on March 17, 2017. It is also expected that Jon Bernthal will get his own Netflix series after his spectacular performance as The Punisher in Daredevil Season 2. It's been confirmed that The Punisher has been added to Netflix's lineup of Marvel superhero endeavors. It sounds like The Punisher will show more of an origins story for Frank Castle, rather than the character that we saw in Daredevil's sophomore season.

Star Trek: Discovery

A new Star Trek series is coming to CBS All Access in May 2017. The show will also be available on Netflix. (Can we just say that Netflix is currently crushing it in the TV game.) The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green is starring in Discovery. Does this mean that her TWD character Sasha is in danger?? Martin-Green is the first African-American woman lead in a Star Trek series, and it's also the first time that the main character is not a starship captain. We're worried about Sasha's fate in TWD Season 7, but we can't wait to see Martin-Green in action as "Number One" on Star Trek: Discovery!

American Gods

The trailer for STARZ's new series American Gods is straight up confusing, but that's what makes us so interested in this upcoming show. We want to know what the hell is going on! American Gods is based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name, starring The 100's Ricky Whittle alongside Ian McShane. This is the series we're most excited about and we have a feeling that it will be a new favorite of ours. We'll let the trailer speak for itself, check it out below.

The Blacklist: Redemption

The Blacklist: Redemption is a spinoff of NBC's The Blacklist starring Ryan Eggold as Tom Keen and Famke Janssen as Tom's mother Scottie. The Blacklist: Redemption already had a backdoor pilot as one of The Blacklist's Season 3 episodes, in which Janssen's Susan "Scottie" Hargrave was introduced and revealed to be Tom's mom. Scottie is the leader of a mercenary team solving problems for the government in the hopes that they'll be redeemed for their past transgressions. The new series will debut February 23 on NBC. Which new show are you most excited to see?
