Orange Is The New Black Season 4: Samira Wiley, Danielle Brooks & Uzo Aduba talk Poussey's final moments

Orange Is the New Black Season 4 said goodbye to one of our most treasured characters. Now, Samira Wiley and her fellow co-stars reminisce about their final moments with Poussey.

All of the character deaths we've seen in shows such as The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones were put to shame, as Orange Is The New Black Season 4: Episode 12 saw Litchfield suffering a tragic loss which absolutely devastated its fans. In the midst of what was meant to be a peaceful protest, Poussey Washington was suffocated to death as CO Bayley used all of his force to hold her to the ground as he fought off Suzanne's attacks, in the midtst of pure chaos in the prison cafeteria. Her death was brutal, and plunged all of us into a state of mourning, as we realised we would not see Poussey's smiling face or hear her optimism, words of wisdom, or sense of humour ever again.

By way of commemorating Orange Is The New Black's priceless character, actresses Samira Wiley, Danielle Brooks, and Uzo Aduba took the time to speak about Poussey and the filming process of that particular scene. Wiley spoke of her character full of love and respect as she said: "I think that the whole goal of the story of Poussey this season, is you really do see Poussey start to have things to live for. You get so downtrodden when you're there and it's hard to find something to live for." She continued: "Poussey has a girlfriend who she loves, it's really beautiful I think to watch their love story, it's really natural it happens to blossom because, I don't know they like each other." As far as we were concerned, Poussey and Soso had the real love story of the show, not other couple came close.

Danielle Brooks, who played Possey's best friend in Litchfield, Taystee, spoke of how it felt to film with Wiley during Poussey's final moments on the show. She explained: "That was a very difficult scene to shoot, and I remember afterwards just hugging her, and it was a moment of really being grateful for life, grateful for friendship and I'm glad I got to do that with her." Brooks recently spoke about the reasons why everyone loves her character Taystee, and our love for her would never have been possible, had it not been for the touching scenes she shared with Poussey.

Uzo Aduba, who plays Crazy Eyes on the show, unintentionally was the reason behind Poussey's death explained: "This season was tough to go through and to see that we were losing one of our own." As Episode 12 came to a close, many of us here at melty sat and agreed that there is possibly not a character in Litchfield who was less deserving of Poussey's fate. But unfortunately, it did highlight one of OITNB's most important main themes, which was to show the corrupted and disconnected nature of the prison system. Wiley closed the interview by summing up why the loss Poussey's will be mourned for a long time by revealing: "Sometimes when I think about what kind of a friend I wanna be, I look to Poussey." And it's certain, that we all want a friend like Poussey. Have you recovered from Orange Is The New Black Season 4?
