Preacher: AMC has commissioned Season 2 and it's going to have more episodes

Written by

We're loving Preacher Season 1, and it seems as though AMC is as well since they've just given the show a second season and it's going to be 13 episodes long!

Preacher is unlike anything on our telly screens right now. If you've been watching Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead and don't know what to watch now, then Preacher is the show for you. It's full of bloody action, guts, gore, vampires, strange angels, and the most badass 'holy man' you've ever seen. It's showrunners, Evan Goldberg, Sam Catlin and Seth Rogen (that's right... Seth Rogen is one of the creators of this show), have made something truly different and utterly riveting. It's based on the cult comic book series of the same name which was created by Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, and their source material has successfully made the transition to television. AMC in fact, has been so happy with the results that they have commissioned a second season and have expanded it from 10 episodes to 13.

This news comes from Variety who also noted that Preacher is "the #2 new series on cable this year among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, and is currently averaging 3.3 million viewers per episode." With those numbers, it's no wonder that AMC has decided to give the show a second season. AMC is also responsible for such shows as The Walking Dead, Mad Men and Breaking Bad, however the latter two have now come to an end and Preacher seems to have come in at exactly the right time for them. The president of AMC, Charlier Collier, had this to say about the network's new hit show: “Preacher is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season.”

Collier continued: “What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.” Check out our review of Preacher Episode 1 to find out what we thought of the show's pilot (SPOILER - we quite liked it). You can stream Preacher on Amazon Prime if you live in the UK, but for all of you in the US who want to check out the show, AMC has made the first episode available on their YouTube page. So what are you waiting for? Start watching Preacher now! Are you enjoying Preacher as much as we are?
