Spider-Man Homecoming, who could Donald Glover be playing in the movie?

Donald Glover is going to be in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but who will he be playing? We have come up with a few possibilities.

Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we know that Community's Donald Glover has joined the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, which has pleased us greatly here in the melty offices. Many Spider-Man fans, including ourselves, were originally calling for Glover to play Miles Morales in Sony's earlier reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. They eventually cast Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker in those movies, and Sony and Marvel have decided to go for Parker once again in Spider-Man: Homecoming. They opted to cast Tom Holland in the lead role, which meant that we weren't going to see Miles Morales' version of Spidey in our cinemas... yet. We already know that Robert Downey Jr. will play Iron Man in Homecoming, and he's been joined by Michael Keaton, who's rumored to be playing the Vulture. But who will Donald Glover play? We have a few suggestions.

Robbie Robertson

Now that we know that J.K. Simmons won't be returning as J. Jonah Jameson, we frankly don't think that they'll recast anybody else as the Daily Bugle's ranting and raving editor-in-chief. What they could do is bring in Robbie Robertson, the more easy-going editor of the Daily Bugle, who in the comic books managed to stop Jameson's crusade against Spider-Man. If Glover was the play this role, we'd see him as a possible ally, confidant and mentor for Peter Parker when things start to go a bit array. He could help get Spider-Man some good press, and it would be great to see Tom Holland and Glover act alongside one another as Parker and Robertson. If people think that Glover is a bit too young to play Robertson, he could always play his son Randy.

Hobie Brown

We all know that we want to see Donald Glover in the Spidey suit, and that could be done in the form of Hobie Brown. He's a rather interesting character. He's a young inventor, much like Peter, and one day was inspired when we was rescued by Spider-Man. He then decided to become a slightly inferior version of the wall-crawler, and called himself the Prowler (not the best name ever). After he lost his job as a window cleaner, he decided to turn his hand to a life of crime, but quickly realised that he was more suited to being a hero and helping people. In the comics he became one of Spidey's closet friends and confidants, and has actually warn the Spider-Man costume once or twice.

Miles Morales

OK, this is more wishful thinking than anything. Donald Glover already voices Miles in the animated TV series, Ultimate Spider-Man, and there are so many fans who would love to see him bring the character to the big screen that Marvel could try to bring him in somehow. Morales takes on the role of Spider-Man when Peter Parker dies, so there could be some wiggle room to have Glover play a version of the character. Peter Parker could go missing, presumed dead, and Glover's Morales could wear the suit for a brief period, before realising that Peter is in fact still alive. We know that this wouldn't really be enough, and could actually end up angering a section of the die hard Morales fans, so Marvel probably won't go down this route. Who do you think Donal Glover will be playing in Spider-Man: Homecoming?
