The Vampire Diaries and The Originals to crossover April 8

Did someone say crossover? Just a few weeks after Stefan Salvatore's visit to New Orleans, it's already time for The Originals' Elijah and Finn to return the favor

Cast your minds back to a whole month ago, when The Vampire Diaries Season 7: Episode 14 saw Stefan head across to New Orleans in an attempt to hide from crazy girl Rayna. Great episode, right? Well, producers clearly seem to think so, with another crossover set to hit screens early next month. This time, it's the turn of Elijah and Finn to make their way to Mystic Falls when The Originals episode "Behind The Black Horizon" airs April 8. The duo cross paths with the notorious vampire hunter Matt Donovan while on the hunt for kidnapped sister Freya. The Originals EP Michael Narducci spoke to Access Hollywood about the crossover, saying: “[I] know the fans - they love the shared universe and they love to see that these characters still interact in the same big wide world and if Matt is interacting with Elijah... that’s a reminder that these characters still function in the same place."

Narducci went on: "For me, as a creator, what’s really exciting is that Matt was the one who killed Finn in Season 3 with a white oak stake and so now it’s Finn, who has recently been brought back through magic to rejoin his family, [who] is coming face-to-face with the guy who killed him. And I think that that’s interesting and it’s also interesting as a reminder that even though he’s just a human being, Matt Donovan’s a tough guy who, when push comes to shove, given the right weapons, can even take down an Original, so I thought that was pretty cool.” The episode sounds pretty ambitious, with only a portion of the storyline set to follow the pair's adventures in Mystic Falls. Too much of a good thing, maybe? For more The Vampire Diaries news, check out the spoiler photos for Season 7: Episode 16 here, and let us know whether you think the crossover will be worth it.
